Professor Håkan Nygren

Research Background

Professor Nygren has long term experience in work with labelled antibodies and development of immunoassays (e.g. the ELISPOT), basic histology, fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy and has collaborated with physicists in surface science during the last 20 years. Imaging mass spectrometry was included among our analytical tools 5 years ago, and through collaboration with physicists, we have reached a world-leading position in this field of research. We were e.g. the first to publish: Analysis of organic molecules in tissue by silver coating, new techniques for tissue preparation, localization of cholesterol in the CNS, and localization of galactosylceramide in tissue. Our group has an extensive and well defined peak list of analytes.

Doctoral Thesis
